This funeral trolley is no trick. From the 1890s to the 1920s, trolleys were far more than just passenger vehicles in our big cities. The lines were also the most efficient way to deliver some freight, mail and other special services. Most large cities had such cars which offered a dignified and comfortable way to navigate bustling city avenues between church and burial services for the deceased and family. Based on these prototypical cars, Lionel's version pays tribute to another nearly forgotten part of how the rails once touched every part of our daily lives.
