Refrigerated rail transportation revolutionized the produce industry in North America, allowing fresh commodities from the west to be sold for the first time in the east, and vice-versa. To expedite the delivery of these time-sensitive goods, railroads attached Express Reefers to their priority passenger trains, adding one or more of these specially built cars ahead of the baggage and passenger cars. With similar cars found both during the Civil War and running through the Wild West, the Old Time Gondola is an essential addition to any late 1800s HO scale railroad. Each Gondola features metal wheels, body-mounted E-Z Mate® Mark II couplers, and a detailed underframe.
