Constructed between the 1900s and 1940s, the Baldwin 2-8-0 proved to be one of the most popular locomotives in the manufacturer's catalog. Typically found in freight service, the 2-8-0 was a versatile locomotive that could just as easily handle a passenger train, and several have survived into preservation where they continue to perform this role.
