Description
Pennsylvania LEGACY E6 Atlantic #1600
Built To Order
While most railroads accepted the need to build larger Pacifics as trains grew heavier, the Pennsylvania's engineers kept busy refining a big-boilered Atlantic that could rival contempary 4-6-2s in performance. The E6 wouldn't be the last or largest of the Atlantics built, but they are still widely regarded as some of the best. The high-drivered Atlantics pulled everything from the great limiteds to locals and commuter runs, not to mention plenty of special trains over their 5 decades of service. We honor the first and last of this great class in this release with No. 5075 looking as she did when new in 1910 and 460 as currently restored at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Also included, No. 1600, one of the later surviving locos as they looked in the 1950s working branchline and commuter operations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. With the Strasburg Railroad's close relationship to the Pennsy Atlantics, we're also taking a "what if" look at No. 460 as a possible candidate for operation like the 7002 and 1223 enjoyed at the end of their working lives
