Railroads employ an army of workers acrossmultiple crafts and scattered over a wideregion. But it is important to make sureeveryone has a clear understanding of thecommon rulebooks and procedures. Mostrailroads found it much more efficient to sendthe instructor to the students rather than hostclasses at a single location. Old passengerequipment made the obvious choice forthese traveling classrooms. Accommodationsvaried greatly and larger roads often hadmultiple cars, some specialized for specifictraining purposes. Lecture style seating, movieprojectors, working control and brake systemswere common. The Union Pacific car includedhere at one time housed a full working modelhump yard in N Scale! Most cars also includedan office or even sleeping quarters for theinstructor at one end.These cars would roam about the railroadon a regular schedule, making stops at majorpassenger or freight terminals and staying for upto a couple of weeks to accommodate workersin the area, before being coupled to a regularfreight or passenger train for the move to thenext stop. So, a car like this will look right at homenear your engine house or station - or make aninteresting random addition to any train.To make school more fun, we’ve added dialogsounds for the class when the car is stoppedalong with freight sounds which play when thecar is in motion. So, get your pencils andrulebooks ready, class is about to begin!
